Responding Together: CRCP Disaster Response for Negros Region

Uniting in compassion, presence and service

The Current Situation

The central Philippines has recently been hit by devastating weather and flooding events, severely affecting the island of Negros and surrounding areas. On 4 November 2025, Typhoon Tino (also referred to as Typhoon Kalmaegi) made landfall and left thousands stranded, extensive damage, and lives lost. (ABS-CBN)

In the province of Negros Occidental and the city of Bacolod, local governments declared a state of calamity on 6 November 2025 following the widespread destruction caused by the storm. (SunStar Publishing Inc.)
According to the Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office: approximately 7,895 families (or 27,401 individuals) were pre-emptively evacuated in Bacolod alone. In that city, 266 houses were destroyed and 2,028 houses partially damaged, with storm surges, strong winds and felled trees cited as causes. (Philippine News Agency)

These realities call for swift and compassionate response.

Why CRCP Steps In

As the national body of the Christian Reformed Church in the Philippines, our commitment to diakonia — faithful service in the name of Christ — means we respond with urgency and care when our brothers and sisters are affected by disasters.
We believe that “preparedness is also stewardship — caring for the life and safety God entrusted to us.” Emergencies such as floods or storms can strike suddenly. Churches must not only preach hope but also act in love and practical support.

In the Negros region (Classis Negros North, South, Central & East), the impact is significant. Our local congregations and Church in community are already working under strain. This is where the CRCP Disaster Response Team (DRT) joins hands — offering support, mobilising resources, and walking alongside local churches.

What We Are Mobilising

Immediate Relief

  • Distribution of food packs, clean water, and basic hygiene kits for displaced and affected families.
  • Cash assistance to meet urgent needs where options are limited.
  • Coordination with local churches and leaders to ensure the aid reaches the most vulnerable.

Recovery & Restoration

  • Support for safe shelter repair (especially where homes or roofs were damaged).
  • Pastoral and spiritual care — we are committed to bringing hope, prayer, and presence as part of relief.
  • Encouraging and helping households prepare Go Bags and disaster readiness kits, so we stay ready for what may still come.

Accountability & Partnership

  • All funds given through CRCP will be handled with transparency, in partnership with local Diaconal Committees and Classis leadership.
  • We seek to serve with the local church, not replace it — local pastors, volunteers and community members are central.

How You Can Partner With Us

  1. Pray — for the affected families, for safety, restoration, and healing; for local church leaders and volunteers.
  2. Give — every gift enables immediate response and recovery.
    • Give through your local CRCP congregation → mark “Negros Disaster Response”.
    • Direct giving via CRCP National Office: GCash 0920-917-5008 (Acct Name: Mona Sanchez). Scan the QR code above.
    • After giving, please send your transaction slip/screenshot to facebook.com/crcpnational (Messenger).
  3. Prepare — encourage your congregation and families to build or update their Go Bags (72-hour kits).
    Disasters don’t always announce themselves.

A Word of Gratitude

To all CRCP churches, deacons, volunteers, donors and classis leadership: thank you. Because you responded — with generosity, faith and the heart of Christ — we can stand together during this time of need.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2

Let us continue to walk in unity, serving our neighbours, ready to respond and serve.
To God be the glory.

Next Steps

  • We will publish monthly updates on fund utilisation and relief distribution.
  • We will share stories from the field (local church reports, testimonies).
  • We commit to long-term follow-through, not just one-time relief.

Thank you for being part of this work of love and service.
